Introduction
I contributed to selected areas of VCA Animal Hospitals’ internal operations platform, including scheduling, nurse dashboard workflows, and financial experiences such as invoices, balances, payments, credits, refunds, and transaction history.
I also independently led a mobile concept that explored how doctors and clinic staff could access patient, visit, and task information away from the main workstation.
About this case study
This page highlights selected VCA work across scheduling, nurse dashboard workflows, financial experiences, and a mobile concept.
Because the product work was confidential and collaborative, and is no longer publicly available, this case study stays intentionally high level. It focuses on the areas I contributed to, the design problems I worked through, and the workflow patterns I helped shape without exposing sensitive business, clinic, or patient details.
Overview
The VCA desktop platform supported doctors, nurses, and clinic staff in managing hospital workflows, but the experience was primarily desktop based and not optimized for moments when staff needed quick access to patient and visit information on the move.
The mobile concept explored how key clinical workflows could become more accessible in a fast paced clinic environment while staying aligned with VCA’s existing systems.
Problem
- The platform was mainly desktop based, which restricted access during active workflows.
- Staff needed faster access to patient information, orders, notes, appointments, and tasks.
- Complex workflows were not optimized for mobile use.
- Key actions required speed, clarity, and minimal friction in high pressure environments.
Role
- Contributed to selected areas of the internal operations platform, including scheduling, nurse dashboard workflows, and financial experiences.
- Led the mobile concept experience.
- Defined user flows, information architecture, and mobile interactions.
- Translated complex desktop workflows into mobile first solutions.
- Designed a scalable UI system aligned with VCA systems.
- Collaborated with product and engineering for feedback and alignment.

Design considerations
Solution and structure
Designed a mobile concept that translated selected clinic workflows into focused, mobile first experiences for patient review, visits, notes, orders, tasks, and scheduling access.
- 1Patient list to profileMove from a clinic wide patient list straight into an individual patient profile.
- 2Overview, medications, labs, notes, and ordersTabbed sections that organize the full clinical picture without overwhelming the screen.
- 3Quick actionsFast paths for high frequency tasks such as adding a note or creating an order.
- 4Appointment review and scheduling accessReview visit details and reach scheduling without returning to a workstation.
- 5Task and notification accessStay on top of assigned tasks and clinic notifications throughout the day.
